Ethiopia, U.S. keen to further alliance on regional, continental matters

(EBC; December 7, 2017) - U.S. Acting Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Donald Yamamoto says Ethiopia is a vital partner of the U.S. in regional and continental matters.

Yamamoto made the remarks after his discussions with Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn on Thursday in Addis Ababa on a range of issues of collaboration between the two countries.

The two sides also dwelt on ways of pacifying the east African region, especially Somalia and South Sudan, given the great role Ethiopia has as the current chair of IGAD.

During his three day-stay in Ethiopia, Yamamoto is expected to also meet with senior leaders of the African Union.
