Forum highlights conciliatory role of religious institutions
(EBC; January 10, 2017) - The Ethiopian Interfaith Forum for Development, Dialogue, and Action has emphasized on the vital role of faith-based institutions in maintaining peace and development in the country.
The Forum organized a meeting on peace and development that attracted representatives of various religions in the country and other stakeholders.
Forum Secretary Pastor Zerihun Degu on the occasion called on faith leaders to maintain efforts of promoting lasting peace in their respective institutions.
Mentioning the freedom of religion guaranteed by the country's Constitution, Pastor Zerihun advised the various religious intuitions to actively engage in the ongoing peace building efforts in the country.
He called on the participants to work towards avoiding the repeat of the recent unrest which resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of properties.
According to Pastor Zerihun, it is imperative to create a society that believes in the peaceful settlement of conflicts.
He called on the government, the public and religious institutions to work in close partnership towards peace and development in the country.
Minister of Federal Affairs and Pastoral Area Development Kassa Tekleberhan on his part assured the participants of the government's increasing commitment towards addressing issues raised by the public.
The Minister called on religious institutions to maintain their role of ensuring peace and development in the country.
The forum which ends tomorrow deliberates on causes of conflict, their peaceful settlement and other related issues.
