A 15-member Diaspora Trust Fund Advisory Council set up
(EBC; August 9, 2018) - Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced today the formation of a 15-member Ethiopian Diaspora Trust Fund Advisory Council, according to a statement from his office.
In his speech to the parliament early July, Prime Minister Abiy had challenged all Ethiopians in the Diaspora to make a dollar-a-day contribution for vital development and social projects.
In response to his call, a diverse group of well-known Ethiopian scholars, business executives and other professional have volunteered to coordinate the Diaspora efforts for the fund.
The Advisory Council expects to undertake a comprehensive plan for the Fund including mechanisms for high-level accountability and transparency, project selection criteria for funding and identification of practical means to generate wide public support for the Fund in the global Ethiopian Diaspora.
The Council also plans to seek input from Ethiopian Diaspora communities to ensure that their voices are heard in the establishment and administration of the Fund.
According to the statement, Dr. Abiy thanked all individuals who have taken independent initiative to respond to the call for the Trust Fund.
