Amb. Shiferaw emphasizes importance of accelerating economic integration
(EBC; September 10, 2018) - The Ambassador Extra-ordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Sudan Shiferaw Jarso recently paid courtesy call on Dr. Faisal Hassen, Assistant of the President and Deputy Chairman of the National Congress Party (NCP).
Ambassador Shiferaw pointed out that he will work to boost multidimensional bilateral relationship between the two sisterly countries, highlighting that the two countries enjoy longstanding and time tested history of friendship.
He stressed that all bilateral mechanisms including High Level Joint Commission, Steering Economic and Technical Committee, as well as Joint Border Development Commission meetings need to be organized so as to accelerate economic integration and overcome common challenges.
The Ambassador briefed Dr. Faisal on the reforms underway in Ethiopia including rapprochement with Eritrea.
He appreciated the continued and principled position of the Sudan with regard to the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), underscoring that the government is working to speed-up the construction of the mega hydropower project.
Dr. Faisal welcomed Ambassador Shiferaw and pointed out that the two sisterly countries’ relations go back to ancient times.
He noted that Sudan works with the Ethiopian side to expand bilateral relationship and highly welcomes the reforms taking root in Ethiopia.
Dr. Faisal pointed out that government-to –government, party-to-party and people-to-people ties need to be strengthened in addition to other bilateral mechanisms.
He stressed that peace and stability is crucial for the Horn of Africa region, highlighting that Sudan is contributing a lot in the South Sudanese peace process, while Ethiopia has managed to restore relations with Eritrea.
