Ethio-Tunsian Economic Forum held in Addis Ababa


(EBC; October 10,2018)  - The Ethio-Tunsian Economic Forum which aimed at elevating trade and investment ties between the two countries opened in Addis Ababa, at Sheraton Hotel on October 9,2018.

The forum, which was co-organized, by the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (ECCSA) and the Tunisian Union of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) brought together 36 Tunisian companies and over 40 Ethiopian business firms.

Opening the forum, State Minister of Trade Dr. Mebrahtu Meles stressed that Ethiopia has registered a double-digit annual growth rate for the last 12 years.

The country has identified priority sectors like light manufacturing, textile, leather industry and agro-processing among others he added.

 He also noted that Ethiopia has embarked on the development of various, industrial parks in different parts of the country and in such score, he urged Tunisian companies to invest in Ethiopia‚Äôs industrial parks.

State Minister for External Trade of the Republic of Tunisia, Mr. Hichem Ben Ahmed commended the people and Government of Ethiopia for the warm welcome accorded to his delegation. Tunisia, he said, wanted to build mutually beneficial business ties with Ethiopia.

While noting the existing minimal trade ties between the two countries, the State Minister added that this could be addressed through the creation of joint venture activities between the private sectors of our two friendly countries.

ECCSA and UTICA also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in a bid to strengthen the trade and investment ties between the two countries.
