The IGAD Council of Ministers holds its 61st Extraordinary Session
The IGAD Council of Ministers held its 61st Extraordinary Session today (March 26) in Addis Ababa.
Assuring participants of the Session that IGAD will do all what it can to ensure a lasting peace in South Sudan, State Minister Hirut called on all Parties to the Process to further commit themselves to end the suffering of the South Sudanese People.
The IGAD Special Envoy, Ambassador Ismail Wais made a Progress Report on the developments to date since the Second phase of the High Level revitalization Forum (HLRF) of the ARCSS.
He noted all parties agreed on key provisions of Chapter I and II, where these have now been initialed and revitalized.
Ambassador Wais also urged all Parties to the Process to continue to adhere to the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement and make necessary compromises; and seize what he called “this historic opportunity to bring peace to South Sudan.”
The Council emphasized that strong measures would be taken against violators of the CoH signed on December 2017.
The next High Level Revitalization Forum is scheduled to be held on April 26, 2018.
