The impeachment trial of US President Donald Trump kicked off in earnest on Tuesday with Democrats and Republicans battling over a resolution on the rules governing the trial.
Day two of the impeachment trial follows its ceremonial opening last week when US Chief Justice John Roberts, who will preside over the proceedings, swore in senators as jurors.

Senators are expected on Tuesday to vote on a rules resolution proposed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Democrats have rejected the proposal and vowed to introduce amendments.
