Addis Ababa has today launched a fleet of 100 modern electric buses into service. The new buses are equipped with integrated Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and Fare Collection System (FCS) technologies, promising a more efficient and convenient commuting experience for residents.
The state-of-the-art electric buses boast a range of features designed to enhance the public transport network. They are environmentally friendly, producing zero emissions, and offer a comfortable ride with ample capacity for passengers. The buses are also designed to be modern, accessible, cost-effective, and reliable. Furthermore, they will utilize dedicated bus lanes, ensuring faster travel times for commuters. Officials highlighted that the new fleet will also contribute to significant savings on fuel costs.
In an introductory offer, residents across all parts of Addis Ababa will be able to ride the new electric buses for free today. This initiative aims to allow the public to experience the benefits of the new service firsthand.

The introduction of these buses marks the first operational milestone under a public-private partnership program. An official statement expressed gratitude to Belewneh Kinde Group, the first transport operator to join this initiative, for their collaboration in realizing the vision of improving public transportation in the city.
"We are immensely grateful to Belayneh Kinde Group for partnering with us in this crucial endeavor," the statement read. "Their commitment to serving our residents and sharing our vision of a more convenient public transport system is highly appreciated."
This development is expected to significantly alleviate the existing public transportation shortage in Addis Ababa and provide a more comfortable, efficient, and sustainable commuting option for its residents. The initiative underscores the city's commitment to modernizing its infrastructure and improving the quality of life for its citizens.
