UK PM: Whole Country Stands with Liverpool after 'Horror' of Car Ploughing into Crowds

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer says he is being kept updated with the police investigation in Liverpool, and sends his thoughts to the community in his first comments this morning.

A car ploughed into a crowd of Liverpool fans on Monday evening, injuring 47 people, including four children. 27 of them have been hospitalized.

The incident took place Monday during a Premier League victory parade through Liverpool’s city centre by the city’s official football team.

Merseyside police said the incident was not being treated as terror case and that they arrested a “53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area” who they believed was driving the car.

Prime Minister Starmer told broadcasters “Liverpool stands together and the whole country stands with them."

The prime minister also thanks the first responders "who did a fantastic job last night and continue to do so”.

He says he is "being updated frequently" on the police investigation, while also remaining in close contact with Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram.
