Finance Minister Ahmed Shide and Ethiopia's Ambassador to the United States, Binelf Andualem, held a productive bilateral discussion with senior officials from the U.S. Department of State.
The meeting was attended by Ambassador Troy Fitrell, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for African Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, and Vincent Spera, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of African Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, among others.
The discussion took place on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings being held in Washington, D.C., in 2025.
During the discussion, Ahmed Shide provided an explanation to the officials regarding the macroeconomic reforms currently being implemented in Ethiopia.
The minister further elaborated on the Ethiopian government's efforts to withstand challenging global circumstances and the liberalization measures and policies undertaken through the economic reform to attract additional foreign direct investment and improve the economic condition.
The senior U.S. officials, on their part, appreciated Ethiopia's efforts and achievements in implementing macroeconomic reforms aimed at increasing fiscal capacity and generally creating a favorable business environment.
They also explained the alignment of policies between the two countries with a view to strengthening bilateral trade and expanding American business investment in Ethiopia.
Information obtained from the Ministry of Finance indicates that the two sides agreed to work together with relevant institutions to strengthen the countries' trade and investment partnership and implement it in a mutually beneficial manner.
