Nine People were killed Sunday in a landslide in Sidama Regional state, Ethiopia, according to the National Disaster Risk Management Commission.
The commission also reported that the landslide that occurred in the Wonsho Woreda of the Central Sidama Zone, has caused injuries on six others who are currently receiving medical care at local hospitals.
Two others were killed being taken by flooding.
A team from National Disaster Risk Management Commission and security personnel were deployed to the area to provide humanitarian assistance.
Residents were warned of possibility of further similar incident.
The federal government, in a statement the Government Communication Service (GCS) issued, expressed its deepest condolences over the loss of citizens due to the disasters in various areas of the country.
Realizing that it is the rainy season, “the government urges citizens living in areas vulnerable to such disasters to take necessary precautions,” the statement issued Monday said.
