"Made in Ethiopia" Fuels Amhara's Economic Boom

The "Made in Ethiopia" movement is playing a significant role in the Amhara region not only by increasing the production and productivity of industries but also by expanding investment, stated the region's Chief Administrator, Arega Kebede.

It is recalled that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) launched the "Made in Ethiopia" movement in April 2014 E.C., which aims to solve bottlenecks in the industrial sector and increase its productivity.

The national movement has enabled the manufacturing industry sector to become competitive and productive by jointly addressing complex problems.

As a result, it has become an effective movement that has facilitated product quality and supply by reducing costs through domestic production of previously imported goods.

Amhara Region Chief Administrator Arega Kebede recalled that following the launch of the movement, numerous platforms for the movement were held in many zones and city administrations in the region.

He stated that this has made it possible to resolve problems that were previously obstacles to industrial productivity and has created a conducive opportunity for the government and investors to work closely together.

Therefore, he said that the "Made in Ethiopia" movement in the region has not only led to an increase in production and productivity but also to an expansion of investment.

He added that the movement has also led to the expansion of job opportunities and the recording of other results that contribute to the region's growth.

The Chief Administrator cited the results achieved following the "Made in Ethiopia" movement in the current budget year alone as examples.

He mentioned that it was possible to produce import-substituting products worth 324 million US dollars.

He also stated that out of a plan to create 50,772 jobs, 52,772 citizens were provided with employment opportunities.

He said that efforts are being made to quickly address infrastructure demands such as electricity, water, and other needs essential for the manufacturing sector.

He announced that following this, despite security problems in some parts of the region, investment activity is increasing, enabling investors to grow in their capital size.

Overall, he said that the "Made in Ethiopia" movement is making the region successful by helping it to properly promote its existing resources, ENA learned.
