Ethiopia is undertaking initiatives to improve school standards and build the capacity of teachers to ensure education quality, said Education Minister Professor Birhanu Nega.
The minister made the remarks at the conclusion of the three-day 'Innovating Africa 2025' conference, held under the theme 'Teaching and Empowering Africa in the 21st Century.' The event was organized by the Ethiopian Ministries of Education, Innovation & Technology, and Labour & Skills in collaboration with African Brain.
The continental conference facilitated discussions among African participants on areas such as education, innovation and technology, entrepreneurship and startup reform, capacity building, and forging strategic cooperation.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Minister Birhanu Nega highlighted that the conference featured constructive discussions on improving education quality through infrastructure development and teacher capacity building.
He emphasized that the ideas generated during the conference should be utilized to enhance teacher capabilities and upgrade school facilities.
According to a report by ENA, the minister also stated that Africa needs short- and long-term plans for digital technology to build a sustainable and quality education system for children across the continent.
He cautioned that Africa will face challenges if it fails to understand the current realities in a changing world and keep pace. He stressed the importance of preparing in a timely manner to realize an Africa conducive for the next generation.
Professor Birhanu reiterated that education is the key to everything, underscoring the need for focused work on the quality and accessibility of formal education. He confirmed that Ethiopia has commenced concrete work on education infrastructure and teacher capacity building to enhance education quality.
