Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed launched Tuesday a 5 million Ethiopian Coders Initiative, a large-scale capacity-building project targeting the country’s youth population.
The Premier noted that there is big opportunity with the initiative. “The 5 million Ethiopian Coders Initiative we launch today is a great opportunity and I call upon everyone to encourage the youth to register for the program, gain skills, and acquire international certification.”

Abiy also commended the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for its partnership in this capacity-building initiative.
“My greatest gratitude goes to the government of the United Arab Emirates for the partnership in this large-scale capacity-building project. These 5 million coders will not only create innovative local solutions but also become a beacon of hope for our continent,” he lauded.
Ethiopia, Abiy said on a social media post, has hope through a forward-thinking youth population.
