President Taye Atske Selassie stated that religious institutions have a high role in ensuring sustainable peace and development in Africa.
An international conference of religious institutions, jointly organized by the Ethiopian Council of Religious Institutions and the African Union, was held today in Addis Ababa.
During the conference, discussions were held on issues focusing on achieving Africa's development. On this occasion, President Taye Atske Selassie said that religious institutions should work with focus on sustainable development.
He emphasized that religious institutions should work closely together in unity and peace, and by being a voice for the voiceless, to address problems observed in Africa and globally and to provide solutions for future challenges.
In his remarks, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mohamed Ali Yusuf, stated that as the African Union is a member of the G20, it will work with focus on religious freedom and equality to make Africa a continent where peace and development are realized.
The conference is expected to discuss and pass resolutions on agendas related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the African Union's Agenda 2063, and the agendas to be presented at the 2025 Group of 20 member countries' Leaders' Summit to be held in South Africa next September.
