Ethiopia has a rich tradition of utilizing diplomacy, dialogue, legal mechanisms, and nonviolent strategies to address political disputes and crises. Recognizing this legacy, the National Intelligence Council recently underscored the pivotal role of National Dialogue, Transitional Justice, and Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) processes as cornerstones for enduring peace and prosperity.
In light of this declaration, EBC World engaged with Cherugeta Genene, the State Minister of the Ministry of Peace, who emphasized the critical importance of aligning security efforts and the pursuit of lasting peace with the guidance provided by the National Intelligence Council.
Highlighting ongoing initiatives, the State Minister emphasized the establishment of key institutions like the National Dialogue Commission, which operates under the auspices of the House of the Peoples Representatives. He underscored the comprehensive approach being taken, including the development of policy frameworks, recruitment of skilled personnel, and allocation of necessary resources, all underscored by the government's unwavering commitment to the success of these endeavors.
These endeavors are integral to the broader mission of the National Intelligence Council in addressing underlying challenges that have fueled internal conflicts across Ethiopia. The State Minister stressed the imperative of inclusive dialogue, involving all stakeholders, including the public, to seize the transformative opportunities presented by the reformist government for the betterment of Ethiopia.
Furthermore, Cherugeta lauded the progress of the National Dialogue Commission, noting the completion of participant identification processes across regions and municipal governments. These efforts have been conducted meticulously, adhering to established legal and procedural frameworks to ensure inclusivity and efficacy.
