United Nation Deputy Sec. Gen.   Commends Ethiopia's Dedication to Gender Equality

United Nation Deputy Sec. Gen., Amina Mohamed, commended Ethiopia's political dedication to gender equality through robust legal reforms and service provisions, emphasizing the importance of education in empowering women to participate in decision-making processes.

A high level forum on gender equality and women's empowerment was convened Tuesday , drawing Ethiopian women leaders alongside prominent figures such as UN Deputy Secretary General, Amina Mohamed, and Ethiopian Women and Social Affairs Minister, Ergogie Tesfaye.

The deputy S.ec Gen. urged leaders to extend Ethiopia's successes globally, emphasizing the imperative of collaborative efforts involving government, UN agencies, development partners, and the private sector to address remaining disparities.

Minister Ergogie lauded the pivotal role of women leaders in eradicating child marriage and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Ethiopia, highlighting the nation's prestigious United Nations Population award for these efforts.

The high-level roundtable facilitated an exchange of views and best practices to advance gender equality and women's empowerment, underscoring Ethiopia's commitment through national policies and strategies. Despite strides made, Minister Ergogie acknowledged persistent challenges faced by women and girls, including discrimination, gender-based violence, and limited access to education and healthcare.
