Ethiopia's ambitious single-day tree-planting drive has seen 517.3 million seedlings planted by 1:00 PM EAT today. The nation aims to plant a total of 700 million seedlings by the end of the day.
Tesfahun Gobezay, State Minister of Government Communication Service, confirmed the midday figures, highlighting the significant progress. He also noted that 21.6 million people have participated in the massive greening effort. The state minister urged all participants to intensify their efforts to reach the 700 million targets before the day concludes.
Over 103 Million Saplings Planted Thus Far As Part of Single-Day Campaign
The Government Communication Service disclosed that by 9:00 AM, over 103 tree seedlings had already been planted across Ethiopia in a single day in the Green Legacy Initiative campaign, which set out to plant 700 million trees.
In the early hours of this morning, Ethiopia witnessed millions nationwide turn out to break their own record by planting 700 million saplings from dawn to dusk in its Green Legacy Initiative (GLI).
The campaign, which is part of Ethiopia's broader Green Legacy Initiative (GLI), is taking place today, July 31, 2025.
In a briefing on the progress of the ongoing campaign, State Minister of Government Communication Service Tesfahun Gobezay stated that this massive nationwide effort is part of the seventh round of the GLI.
