Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has officially inaugurated Lafto Hospital, a major medical facility designed to bolster Ethiopia's healthcare infrastructure and expand access to advanced specialized treatment.

The inauguration aligns with the government’s ongoing preventive and curative healthcare policy. According to the administration, the facility represents a transformative milestone in the vision to position Ethiopia as a leading destination for medical tourism. A central objective of the project is to reduce the significant outflow of foreign currency currently spent on medical treatments abroad, while fostering the growth of similar advanced healthcare institutions nationwide.

Built on 5.4 hectares of land, the hospital is designed to deliver internationally standard care for complex medical conditions, including cancer and heart diseases. By providing these specialized services domestically, the institution aims to ensure that citizens have reliable access to high-level healthcare within their own country.

The launch of Lafto Hospital is being framed by the government as a testament to Ethiopia’s commitment to self-reliance and national development, underscoring a broader strategic effort to modernize essential public services across all sectors.
