Agricultural Transformation in East Borana Zone Targets 3.1 Million Quintal Yield

May 27, 2026 79

The agricultural transformation unfolding in the East Borana Zone serves as a testament to Ethiopia’s journey toward food self-sufficiency, according to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

In the current season alone, farmers have covered over 176,223 hectares of land, with expectations for a yield of more than 3.1 million quintals of crops. This production is being driven by organized cluster farming, which has mobilized over 101,000 households and utilized modern tractors to increase productivity.

The harvest includes significant output from wheat clusters in the Liben District, as well as major yields of teff, maize, and haricot beans, contributing to the broader goal of securing the nation's domestic food supply.
