Ethiopia has taken a major step to improve its economy by launching the Electronic Public-Private Dialogue (E-PPD) platform. This new digital tool is designed to create a more transparent and collaborative relationship between the government and the private sector.
Announced at a launch event in Addis Ababa, the E-PPD platform is a key part of the government's effort to modernize how it creates policy. Instead of relying on traditional, often slow, methods like workshops and meetings, the platform uses technology to create a real-time system for feedback and cooperation. It's a key part of the Business Environment and Investment Climate (BEIC) project, which is funded by the European Union and implemented by GIZ.
How the E-PPD Platform Works
The platform acts as a central hub where various groups—including government ministries, business organizations, and civil society groups—can directly submit policy ideas and proposals. This digital process makes it easier to track issues, validate them with data, and develop solutions together. Everything from diagnostic reports to final decisions will be available in one place, creating a clear and open record for all involved.
Dr. Abdulhakim Mulu, State Minister for the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration, stated that the platform is "transformative" and will lead to "more responsive and effective policies that foster sustainable economic growth."
Dr. Kenenisa Lemi, Secretary General of the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (ECCSA), emphasized that the platform will empower businesses to have a direct say in policy-making, which will "strengthen trust and collaboration" and create a more competitive investment climate.
This E-PPD platform is part of a larger digital initiative that includes e-Legislation and e-Consultation portals. A public awareness campaign, including a series of TV programs, will be launched to encourage widespread use of these new digital tools.
