The Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council announced that the 1500th anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) should be celebrated by safeguarding peace and helping those in need.
A statement was made regarding the Mawlid holiday, which will be celebrated on Thursday, September 4, 2025.
According to the Imam of the Grand Anwar Mosque, Sheikh Taha Mohammed Harun, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was sent to bring peace to the world and compassion to humanity. Therefore, the Muslim community should follow his example.
He also mentioned that various events will take place during the Mawlid celebration and that the holiday helps to spread Islamic teachings to Muslims.
For his part, Sheikh Abdulhamid Ahmed, an executive member of the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council and head of the Youth and Women's Affairs Department, said that the Mawlid celebration should be a time to protect local peace and help those in need.
The holiday will be celebrated throughout Ethiopia, and it was also stated that in Addis Ababa, various government officials, ambassadors from foreign countries, and believers will attend special events at the Grand Anwar Mosque.
