Ethiopia, South Sudan Discuss Strengthening Economic Ties

A delegation led by Ethiopia's Minister of Finance, Ahmed Shide, recently met with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit to discuss boosting economic cooperation between the two nations.

During the meeting, the Ethiopian delegation delivered a message from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to President Kiir, reaffirming Addis Ababa's dedication to building a comprehensive partnership with Juba.

The officials had productive talks on several key areas, including:

  • Financial collaboration between the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia and financial institutions in South Sudan.
  • Strengthening a strategic partnership in the air transport sector.
  • Joint investments in critical infrastructure projects, such as roads, electricity transmission lines, and telecommunications.

According to Minister Ahmed, the discussions were fruitful and focused on concrete ways to strengthen economic links through shared interests in infrastructure and oil resources. The meeting underscored a mutual commitment to fostering a stronger, more integrated economic future for both countries.
