Deputy PM Argues Peace Requires Greater Heroism Than War

Aug 29, 2025

Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh has praised former combatants who have chosen a peaceful path, stating that the "heroism of peace" is greater than that of war. In a message posted on social media, he celebrated the recent entry of these individuals into rehabilitation centers as a victory for the nation.

"Peace costs more than war," the Deputy Prime Minister wrote. "It wears out patience, bows shoulders, overcomes pride, and can make one seem weak. This is why the heroism of peace is greater than the heroism of war."

His statement comes as a group of former combatants, who have committed to resolving differences through dialogue, are entering rehabilitation centers. According to the post, these individuals "agreed to present their ideas around a table and decided to try the civilized path."

Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen expressed his gratitude and admiration for their decision. "This is an act of peace heroism," he said, adding that their choice will benefit the entire country. "Through their decision, the country will profit, mothers will be comforted, and the land will rest. With this decision, they will write a new history of peace heroism."

He also called on other armed groups to follow their example, stating, "We believe that others will follow their example and choose the option of peace. For the greatest heroism of our time is the heroism of peace."

The Deputy Prime Minister concluded his message by extending "deep gratitude" to all who have supported the peace process. He thanked those who made the decision to disarm, those who coordinated the process, those who welcomed the former combatants, and the Ethiopian people for their unwavering stance on peace and the rule of law.
