Armed individuals who have been operating in various parts of the Amhara region have accepted the government's peace initiative. The surrender marks a significant step towards de-escalation and stability in the area.
A handover ceremony was held in the presence of several high-ranking officials from both the regional government and the military. Among those in attendance were:
- Yirga Sisay, Head of the Amhara Regional Prosperity Party Branch Office
- Amare Setie, Deputy Speaker of the Amhara Regional Council
- Derbe Mekuriaw, Deputy Commissioner General of the National Rehabilitation Commission
- Dr. Zelalem Mengiste, Chief Commissioner of the Amhara Regional Police
- Dr. Amanuel Ferede, Special Advisor to the Head of State
- General Wagnew Aleme, Deputy Commander of the Western Command
Following the surrender, the individuals who accepted the peace offer have been moved to a temporary training center. According to information from the Central Gondar Zone Communications Department, they have begun a rehabilitation program. This initiative is part of a broader government effort to reintegrate armed groups into society and foster lasting peace.
