Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed proposed a 4-pillar bricks of unity on AFRICA-CARICOM Summit.
Addressing the second AFRICA-CARICOM Summit kicked of Sunday at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Abiy elucidated the fruits of Medemer or Synergy, Abiy mentioned that medemer brought national connection reflected in Green Legacy Initiative, Summer Wheat Program, Ethiopian airlines and more.
The premier implied that Ethiopia's achievements through medemer can be replicated to the Africa Caribbean relations. "Our experience guided by the spirit of medemer together with our collective innovations in energy, agriculture, digital technology and knowledge cab be a bridge linking Africa and the Caribbean in shared prosperity."
The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) proves Ethiopia's bold determination to sharedvision, he said.
Speaking on the future of the AFRICA-CARICOM shared vision, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed proposed a 4-pillar bricks of unity on Africa- Carricom Summit.
"To turn vision into action and build on the commitments of the 1st AU-Caricom summit, I propose a 4-pillar bricks of unity on AFRICA-CARICOM Summit. 1st is agriculture and innovation,"he said. He mentioned that advancing climate smart farming, tropical crops research and resilient food systems paired with digital platforms, AI and e-learning could amlify impact
Innovative and collaboration, culture and leadership as well as knowledge and health are the other three pillars of unity Abiy proposed.
In addition to Ethiopian PM, The opening ceremony has featured addresses by the Incoming Chair of CARICOM, Terrance Drew, CARICOM Secretary-General, Carla Barnett, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, and the President of the Republic of Angola, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço.
Convened under the theme “Transcontinental Partnership in Pursuit of Reparatory Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations,” the Summit aligns with the principles of the African Union-CARICOM MoU on strengthening engagement and fostering linkages between CARICOM and Africa.
Representatives from the broader AU and UN systems, along with other strategic regional and global partners, including the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States; Permanent Forum of People of African Descent; civil society, and diaspora organizations, were in attendance of the opening session of the 2nd AFRICA-CARICOM Summit.
