The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is set to open for public tours.

At the dam's inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed highlighted that since the GERD "bears the mark of all Ethiopians," it is a place every citizen should have the chance to visit.

Following this, Minister of Tourism Selamawit Kassa announced that groups and institutions interested in touring the GERD can begin registering on Monday.

The minister explained that the visits will be a one-day round trip, with Ethiopian Airlines accommodating groups of 50 people at a time.

While essential tourist infrastructure at the site is still under development, Minister Selamawit added that organizations and service providers interested in offering services at the dam can also now visit the location.

Tours will be conducted twice a week.
