Jigjiga has undergone a dramatic transformation since January, according to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

In a recent post, the Prime Minister highlighted the rapid development, noting that thousands of new housing units are under construction across the city to address citizens' urgent needs. Furthermore, corridor development projects are "visibly enhancing wellbeing" in all areas where work has begun.

"As we modernize our urban centers, we must remain mindful that we are not only building for today, but also laying the foundation for tomorrow," the Prime Minister wrote. He stressed the importance of grounding this vision in "what is essential for us as Africans and Ethiopians."

The Prime Minister also pointed to new economic opportunities, citing the Somali Region's push into tourism. The Dine project, nearing completion, is expected to bring fresh value to the eastern part of the country.

PM Abiy concluded by stating that the progress witnessed "speaks to an awakening that is now taking hold in Jigjiga and across the region."
