National Dialogue Reaches Crucial Turning Point Says HoPR Speaker

Oct 02, 2025

Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives (HoPR), Tagesse Chafo, announced that the work of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (ENDC) to build consensus on major national issues has reached a critical stage.

The ENDC simultaneously stressed that efforts to gather agendas and identify participants for the upcoming national dialogue in the Tigray region must be intensified.

During a meeting with Speaker Chafo, Professor Mesfin Araya, Chief Commissioner of the ENDC, reported that the commission has successfully completed agenda gathering and participant identification in eleven regional states and both city administrations.

He also detailed extensive global engagement, noting successful face-to-face and virtual discussions with the diaspora community in North America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, with forums held in cities like Washington D.C., Toronto, and the United Arab Emirates.

The process is currently underway in Sweden and will continue next week in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Crucially, Professor Mesfin confirmed that preparatory discussions have been held with the Tigray Regional Interim Administration, political parties, and various civil society groups to facilitate the launch of the dialogue in Tigray.

Speaker Tagesse concluded the meeting by affirming that the work proves Ethiopians' deep desire to resolve disagreements through dialogue, urging citizens to strengthen their active and responsible participation and assuring the Commissioners that the HoPR will intensify its support.
