Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced the successful river diversion at the Megech Irrigation Development Project, marking a critical step forward near Gondar City.
PM Abiy reviewed the project's progress and posted that the diversion represents an "important stage" in the development of the irrigation scheme.
Once fully operational, the Megech project is designed to cover a total area of 870 hectares and is expected to irrigate approximately 17,000 hectares of surrounding farmland.
The Prime Minister confirmed that the remaining construction activities are on schedule. The completion of the primary Megech Dam is highly anticipated, as its irrigation benefits are projected to "significantly enhance the area’s agricultural productivity," supporting Ethiopia's push for greater food security.
