Ethiopian Airlines has announced a remarkable financial performance for the 2017 fiscal year, generating a staggering $7.6 billion in revenue. This substantial achievement reflects the airline's continued growth, resilience, and its significant role in the global aviation landscape.

CEO Mesfin Tasew highlighted the airline's robust operational figures during a public statement. Ethiopian Airlines transported a total of 19 million passengers during the fiscal year, with a dominant 15.2 million of those being international travellers. This impressive passenger volume underscores the airline’s expanding global reach and its popularity among travellers. Further highlighting its critical role in global trade, the airline also transported a massive 785,323 tons of cargo.

Despite facing challenges within the global air transport sector, including various economic and geopolitical headwinds, Ethiopian Airlines has demonstrated remarkable adaptability and financial prudence.

CEO Mesfin emphasised the airline’s strong performance, achieved in the face of adverse global events.

The fiscal year also saw significant expansion in the airline’s infrastructure and fleet. Ethiopian Airlines inaugurated six new international airports and introduced 13 new aircraft to its fleet, enhancing both its capacity and its global footprint. Furthermore, the airline is actively working to expand its domestic service network, with ongoing airport construction projects intended to increase the number of domestic destinations from 21 to 26.

In addition to these initiatives, CEO Mesfin emphasised the airline’s continuous commitment to strengthening and modernising its operational capabilities. This includes upgrading technology, improving passenger experience, and investing in personnel training. These ongoing efforts ensure that Ethiopian Airlines remains competitive and continues to deliver exceptional service to its passengers, solidifying its position as a leading airline in Africa and beyond. The airline is poised for even greater success in the coming years, according to the CEO.
