The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has announced that the country's 7th general election will be held on 1 June 2026.

The announcement came during a press briefing where the Board outlined the official timetable and updated the media on pre-election preparations. NEBE Chairperson Melatwork Hailu confirmed that the electoral body is actively engaged in the necessary groundwork for the upcoming vote.

Under the approved schedule, candidate registration is set to run from 9 January to 8 February 2026. The official election campaigning period will begin on 9 January and conclude on 27 May 2026.

The Board also disclosed that voter registration will take place between 14 February and 16 March 2026. However, officials noted that a self-registration window for voters will open earlier, running from 23 January until 16 March 2026.

Following the vote in June, the Board expects to announce the official election results on 11 June 2026.
