Abu Dhabi Ports (AD Ports) Group has expressed a strong interest in launching large-scale operations within Ethiopia’s logistics and port development sectors.
The announcement followed a strategic meeting between Ethiopia’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the UAE, Dr. Jemal Beker, and Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO of AD Ports Group. The discussions centered on aligning Ethiopia’s regional trade ambitions with the Group’s extensive global expertise.
During the talks, Ambassador Dr. Jemal highlighted Ethiopia’s position as a dominant market force in East Africa. He detailed the ongoing structural reforms designed to streamline trade, specifically pointing to the development of integrated transport corridors and the expansion of port access options. These initiatives, the Ambassador noted, create a "prime window of opportunity" for a strategic partnership with the Abu Dhabi-based conglomerate.
Captain Al Shamisi reaffirmed that AD Ports Group recognizes Ethiopia’s strategic importance and the vast investment potential within the region. He confirmed the Group’s readiness to deploy capital and expertise across several key areas, including:
Port Management: Leveraging world-class operational standards.
Logistics Services: Enhancing the efficiency of goods movement.
Digital Trade Solutions: Implementing modern technology to simplify cross-border commerce.
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to collaborate closely on both existing and upcoming investment projects. The partnership aims to not only modernize Ethiopia's logistics infrastructure but also to serve as a bridge for strengthening the broader economic integration between Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates.
