Ethiopia, U.S. Discuss Formalizing Cross-Border Remittances

Aug 12, 2025

Ethiopia and the United States have discussed enhancing regulatory cooperation to formalize cross-border remittances, aiming to improve transparency and stability in the nation's financial sector.

The conversation took place during a meeting on August 11, 2025, between National Bank of Ethiopia Governor Mamo Mihretu and U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin Massinga. Both officials stressed the importance of routing financial transfers through formal, regulated systems as a key component of Ethiopia’s broader economic development strategy.

This initiative is part of a larger effort to strengthen bilateral collaboration and improve Ethiopia's overall investment climate, reported FBC.
