The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has announced that, based on its ongoing observation of the 7th general election, it has not witnessed any improper treatment regarding human rights.

A team from the Commission, led by Commissioner Birhanu Adelo, conducted in-person inspections of polling stations in the cities of Arba Minch and Jimma.

During his observation, the chief commissioner stated that he noted the polling stations were well-prepared, including being accessible to persons with disabilities, and that the process fully met electoral requirements.

The Chief Commissioner further explained that the EHRC is currently carrying out extensive monitoring by deploying observers across 175 electoral districts and over 2,700 polling stations throughout the country.

The Commission indicated that beyond observing the human rights situation during the election, it will continue to strengthen its monitoring efforts to appropriately oversee the post-election period.
