Head of the IGAD Election Observation Mission to Ethiopia’s 7th general elections, Dr. Specioza Wandira Kazibwe, says members of the mission have not witnessed any operational irregularities so far in the ongoing 7th general elections.

She said members of her team have learnt during discussions with civil society organizations as well as women’s and youths’ associations that election in Ethiopia has showed significant improvements over the years. 

The active participation of women, youths, the elderly and persons with disabilities in the elections in particular is testimony to the huge voter turnout, she said.

She expressed appreciation to Ethiopia’s leading role in Africa in deployment of modern digital technology to facilitate its election process, adding this helped the swift exchange of information and correction of possible anomalies.

The IGAD Election Observation Mission which has been observing the election processes through observers it has deployed across Ethiopia said, the process has so far been orderly and peaceful.

Welcoming the active participation of Ethiopia’s youths in the modernization and supervision of the elections, the mission said, they will have a decisive role in Africa’s democratization journey.
