Over $4.3 Billion in Foreign Direct Investment Attracted

The Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) has announced that it successfully attracted $4.32 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) during the recently concluded 2018 fiscal year.

Speaking to FM Addis 97.1, the Commission's Commissioner, Dr. Zeleke Temesgen, stated that the registered FDI represents an 8% increase compared to the same period the previous year. He also highlighted that over 260 projects in Special Economic Zones were successfully implemented during the fiscal year.

The Commissioner further noted that products worth $225 million were exported to foreign markets from these Special Economic Zones, marking an 80% increase compared to the previous year.

During the fiscal year, the commission issued 528 new investment licenses. Dr. Zeleke pointed out that the macroeconomic reforms implemented by Ethiopia significantly contributed to these achievements. Upon evaluating the performance of the 2018 fiscal year plan, the commission described the outcomes as very promising.
