The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia remains closely engaged with the relevant authorities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding matters affecting Ethiopian nationals in the Kingdom, including individuals facing legal proceedings and judicial measures.

The Government of Ethiopia attaches the highest importance to the welfare, protection, and consular assistance of its citizens abroad. In this regard, the Government of Ethiopia has continued to engage with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the highest levels of government. Moreover, the Ministry, through the Embassy of Ethiopia in Riyadh and the Consulate General in Jeddah, continues to maintain regular communication and constructive engagement with the relevant Saudi authorities in seeking humanitarian consideration, ensuring access to consular support, and pursuing appropriate remedies for Ethiopian citizens facing difficult circumstances.

These sustained diplomatic and consular efforts have yielded positive humanitarian outcomes. To date, a total of 1,971 Ethiopian nationals have benefited from royal amnesties granted by the Saudi authorities and the Government of Ethiopia has begun facilitating their repatriation. The Ministry views these developments as a reflection of the constructive cooperation and longstanding relations between the two countries on consular and humanitarian matters.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to employ all available diplomatic and consular channels to safeguard the interests, rights, and welfare of Ethiopian nationals abroad and will maintain its constructive engagement with the relevant authorities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on remaining matters of concern to its citizens.
