Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has stated that the National Dialogue can only be successful and fruitful if participants move away from individual self-interest ("for me") and embrace a collective mindset of unity ("for us").

In his address at the opening ceremony of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Conference, the Prime Minister said, "If we can address issues where we can all benefit mutually without harming anyone, and choose to say 'not for me, but for us; not for my locality, but for Ethiopia,' then this dialogue will bear fruit."

He also noted that the tireless efforts and dedication of the National Dialogue Commissioners, who have offered their vast experience to the nation, will find their true reward in the success of these deliberations.

Reflecting on the past, the Prime Minister recalled that the historical absence of such dialogue platforms had forced many Ethiopians to pay a heavy price, leading to immense loss of life and injury. He explained that the current undertaking serves as a tribute, bringing solace to those citizens who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Prime Minister Abiy emphasized that by honoring those who have passed, labored, and sacrificed, and by engaging with mutual respect and active listening, the participants must strive to deliver the best possible outcome for the nation.
