Ethiopia has been elected to serve as Chair of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) Council of Ministers from 1 August 2026 to 31 January 2027, following the conclusion of the 121st Session of the OACPS Council of Ministers held on 15–16 July 2026 in Brussels.
Ethiopia participated in the ministerial meeting with a high-level delegation led by State Minister of Finance, Semereta Sewasew, alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Upon assuming the presidency, Ethiopia outlined its priorities for the six-month tenure, including promoting policy autonomy, sharing its experience in self-reliant development and domestic resource mobilization, strengthening transparency and accountability within the Organization, supporting ongoing resource mobilization efforts, and facilitating the implementation of the Samoa Agreement.
The Council also endorsed Addis Ababa as the host of the 122nd OACPS Council of Ministers Meeting, scheduled for November 2026.
Ethiopia previously chaired the OACPS Council of Ministers from 1 August 1986 to 31 January 1987, and from 1 February 2017 to 31 July 2017. Ethiopia's election to chair the OACPS Council of Ministers underscores its growing diplomatic engagement and leadership on the international stage, while reaffirming its commitment to advancing South-South cooperation and strengthening the OACPS partnership with the European Union.
