Green Legacy: A Key Strand in Ethiopia’s Journey to Prosperity

In a message shared today, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) emphasized that civilization is not the result of a single effort, nor can progress in a single sector bring true civilization on its own. He stressed that the Green Legacy Initiative is neither a seasonal campaign nor an isolated action aimed merely at short-term goals. Instead, it represents one strand of an overarching vision, an integral part of Ethiopia's national journey toward holistic growth and prosperity.

Highlighting the foundations of progress, the Prime Minister noted that civilization is not built in thin air and demands a solid foundation, as anything built without firm roots easily collapses and will not endure. A civilization that transcends generations is recognized by the depth of its roots, and today’s Green Legacy stands as one of those essential pillars alongside energy development, industrial expansion, and skills building.

Drawing a direct parallel to other national priorities, Prime Minister Abiy stated that ecological sustainability must be pursued through the Green Legacy Initiative just as institutions are built to strengthen state-building, national reconciliation and dialogue are pursued to reinforce unity, industrial and digital sectors are prioritized for structural economic transformation, and administrative excellence is developed to foster an inclusive country.

PM Abiy warned that just as civilization cannot succeed without unity or economic transformation, and cannot endure without strong state-building, it will not last without ecological sustainability, stressing that the absence of any single element leaves civilization incomplete.

He concluded with a call to action: "Let us solidify our foundation by planting hope!"
