In a historic show of national unity, the collective strength of Ethiopians delivered a monumental victory by planting 805.3 million seedlings in just one day. According to key highlights drawn from a speech by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD), unrivaled public perseverance, nearly 26 million citizens, working voluntarily and mostly pushing through relentless rain all day, achieved a world-spanning feat that few nations could execute.

The speech emphasized that this unified action proves Ethiopia is a country of execution: when its people come together, they accomplish what they plan, offer aid to those in need without relying on charity, and stride toward true prosperity. From children and the elderly to persons with disabilities, youth, women, men, and volunteers across media, agriculture, and other fields, citizens participated with overwhelming morale in an all-inclusive national movement.

By surpassing its single-day target of 800 million, Ethiopia set a proud new benchmark, bringing this year’s total to 6.5 billion seedlings planted so far, with the remaining 1.5 billion scheduled for the coming months. In his address, Prime Minister Abiy offered his deep, heartfelt gratitude to every individual across the country who contributed to this milestone by raising seedlings, digging holes, providing technical support, or planting on the ground.
