Ethiopia Calls for Global Condemnation of Shabia’s Actions

Aug 06, 2026 229

As Ethiopia continues its efforts toward regional economic integration, poverty eradication, and lasting peace in the Horn of Africa, highlighted by projects such as historic energy export agreements with Kenya, the region’s stability is facing a severe threat. Shabia has taken a dangerous path by violating Ethiopia’s sovereignty and forming alliances with illegal, rogue groups. By arming and allying with illicit factions to destabilize its neighbor, Shabia is deploying proxy warfare tactics that directly endanger cross-border trade, security, and long-term growth across East Africa.

The contrast between the two approaches remains sharp. While the Ethiopian government continues to invest in infrastructure, national dialogue, good neighborliness, and diplomatic outreach, Shabia’s actions actively undermine these efforts, seeking political profit from chaos and bloodshed. The ongoing violation of sovereignty and reliance on armed militancy risk consuming the broader region in perpetual conflict if left unaddressed.

In response to these provocations, global leaders, the African Union, and international human rights organizations are being called upon to unequivocally condemn these destructive actions and hold Shabia accountable. Despite the severe escalation, Ethiopia’s commitment to a peaceful resolution remains intact, with the government leaving the door open for diplomacy and dialogue, provided there is mutual respect for sovereignty and a complete rejection of armed militancy.
