The Ethiopian Media Authority announced today in an official press statement that Tigray Television (Tigray TV) has been suspended indefinitely.

The Authority recalled that following the Pretoria Peace Agreement between the FDRE Government and the TPLF, the station’s previous suspension was lifted after discussions and an agreement were reached with the Tigray Regional Interim Administration, allowing it to resume broadcasting. 

Since then, the regulator noted that it had made continuous efforts to guide the outlet back onto a constitutional and professional track by providing peacebuilding and capacity-building training to Tigray TV’s journalists and staff.

However, recent content monitoring and evaluation by the Authority confirmed that rather than utilizing this opportunity to serve in accordance with professional ethics, Tigray TV has been continuously broadcasting messages that jeopardize national and public security, compromise national interests, incite conflict, and promote extremism. Executing its legally mandated responsibility, the Ethiopian Media Authority has therefore imposed an indefinite suspension on the channel, effective today.

Additionally, the Authority strictly warned all digital, broadcast, and print media outlets against using Tigray TV as a news source or redistributing and amplifying content unlawfully broadcast by the station. The regulator emphasized that it will take all necessary legal and administrative measures against any media organization found violating this directive.
