New App Launches to Protect Ethiopian Migrant Workers

Aug 21, 2025

To better support and protect its citizens working overseas, the Ministry of Labor and Skills has partnered with the International Labour Organization (ILO) to launch a new mobile application called "Lemenegede," which means "For My Journey."

The app, developed locally, is designed to serve as a vital tool for Ethiopians preparing to work abroad. State Minister Nebiha Mohammed explained that it will provide working citizens with essential information about their destination countries and their rights as employees. The app also includes a critical feature that allows users to report any problems they encounter while working, which will help the government and partner organizations ensure their safety and well-being.

According to Kumbula Ndaba, the ILO Director for Ethiopia, the app is a significant step toward making overseas employment safer and more accessible. He noted its crucial role in helping to curb illegal migration by empowering citizens with the right information and resources.

"Lemenegede" is currently available on the Telebirr platform and offers services in Amharic, Arabic, and English.
