President Taye Atske-Selassie has unveiled the Ethiopian government’s comprehensive eight-point strategic agenda for the 2019 Ethiopian Calendar (E.C.).
In a landmark address to a joint session of the House of Peoples' Representatives and the House of Federation, President Taye emphasized that the nation’s upcoming development trajectory will be anchored in structural transformation, economic self-reliance, and a assertive diplomatic posture on the global stage.
Adhering to these strategic priorities, he noted, will position the country to achieve "high leaps in productivity" across all social, economic, and service sectors.
The Eight Strategic Pillars outlines specific, high-priority interventions across governance, economic policy, and foreign relations.
Prioritizing Peace and Sustainable Unity: Positioning national stability as the indispensable foundation for all progress, the government will actively cultivate national cohesion by prioritizing collective national interests over divisive agendas.
Quality-Driven Structural Transformation: Launching sector-wide reforms designed to elevate institutional quality, efficiency, and operational standards across the public domain.
Human-Centered Social Development: Pivoting education, healthcare, and social protection services toward a results-oriented model that prioritizes measurable citizen impact over simple physical expansion.
Economic Self-Reliance & Infrastructure Modernization: Executing a targeted strategy to boost domestic production of vital agricultural and industrial inputs, backed by the development of modern, independent infrastructure.
Overhaul of Project Management & Oversight: Restructuring public project implementation and financing mechanisms to enforce strict accountability, eliminate waste, and accelerate completion timelines.
Fiscal Discipline & Debt Sustainability: Modernizing the national tax base and adopting balanced, risk-managed debt strategies to maintain strict oversight of public revenues and expenditures.
Federal-Regional Synergy: Strengthening institutional synchronization and collaborative governance between the Federal Government and Regional States to eliminate administrative bottlenecks.
Proactive & Influential Foreign Policy: Transitioning Ethiopia’s diplomatic stance from a receptive model to an influential regional leadership role. The government will take early initiative on global issues, forge strategic new alliances, constructively engage critics, and lead efforts toward Horn of Africa peace and economic integration.
President Taye expressed firm confidence in the capacity of these strategic pillars to secure the nation's long-term prosperity. His address signals a decisive shift toward institutional modernization, fiscal accountability, and a more assertive international profile for Ethiopia in the year ahead.
