Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) urged newly appointed cabinet members today to recognize the heavy trust placed in them, emphasizing that accepting a position is a profound responsibility and burden rather than a matter of leisure.

Addressing the nominees, he highlighted that public service demands relentless day-to-day dedication to stabilize Ethiopia, drive its prosperity, and accelerate the journey toward great civilization. Every cabinet member must understand from the outset that leadership involves broad responsibility and fatigue instead of comfort and luxury.

Extensive efforts have been made to ensure that ministers align seamlessly with their respective offices and the demands of the modern era. Because the coming decade will require rigorous effort and endurance, selections focused on leaders equipped with the competence to meet those challenges.

Highlighting the public mandate, Prime Minister Abiy noted that the Ethiopian people have clearly expressed their desire through elections to stabilize the government, ensure continuity, and elevate statehood. Fifty-four million citizens have placed an extraordinary level of trust in the administration, requiring leaders with strong shoulders capable of bearing that weight.

The selection process prioritized individuals who understand the magnitude of public responsibility, strongly oppose corruption, and view sincere service as a privilege. Additionally, candidates were evaluated on their understanding of Ethiopia's Medemer Grand Strategy through 2050 and their proven competence during specialized training.

Emphasizing that national progress must directly touch every citizen, the Prime Minister stated that growth must be measured not merely by outputs and processes, but by tangible outcomes and direct societal impact.

Finally, he noted that after prioritizing competence and experience, the cabinet selections balanced ethnic, gender, and religious representation to faithfully reflect a multi-national Ethiopia.
