Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a significant meeting yesterday, July 10, on the sidelines of the annual ASEAN ministerial events. The high-level talks served as a direct follow-up to recent agreements between the presidents of Russia and the United States, including a telephone conversation held just last week on July 3.
The two top diplomats conducted a comprehensive review of the bilateral relationship between their nations and discussed the prevailing global situation. Their agenda included a "substantive and frank exchange of views" on critical international issues such as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the situation in Iran, and developments in Syria, among others.
Both ministers reportedly reaffirmed their mutual commitment to finding peaceful resolutions to various conflict situations worldwide. They also expressed a desire to resume Russian-US economic and humanitarian cooperation, as well as to facilitate unhindered ties between their respective societies. A potential step towards achieving these goals, they noted, could be the resumption of direct flights between Russia and the United States.
