AfCFTA to Boost Ethiopia's Manufacturing Sector, Says National Council

Aug 26, 2025

A new regional trade agreement is poised to significantly enhance Ethiopia's manufacturing capacity, according to the National Sectoral Associations Council. The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is expected to unite African nations and create a single, expansive market.

During an appearance on EBC's "Adis Ken Ye Hager Guday," Abebayehu Girma, Vice President of the National Sectoral Associations Council, highlighted the agreement's potential. He stated that the AfCFTA will be a key driver for increased production in Ethiopia.

Abebayehu noted that with Ethiopia's extensive development of industrial parks, the country's manufacturers will no longer be limited to the domestic market. Instead, they will have the opportunity to sell their products across the entire continent, leveraging the free trade area to expand their reach.

The agreement is also projected to benefit Ethiopian Airlines, a leading carrier in Africa. Abebayehu explained that the AfCFTA will create new avenues for the airline to provide additional passenger and cargo services, capitalizing on the expected increase in cross-border trade and travel.
