Scholars urged to contribute share toward move for access to sea outlet

Sustainable peace and development along with huge economic gains would be some of the advantages Ethiopia would have if it had access to sea outlets.

This was disclosed at a consultative forum organized by the Ministry of Peace and the Assosa University. The event dwelt at length on the socio-economic benefits of having access to sea outlet and the huge loss that comes as a result of having none.

The president of the Assosa University, Kemal Abdurahim has called on the scholars to contribute positive share to Ethiopia’s quest to have access to sea outlet given the multiple benefits it will bring to the nation.

This calls for pragmatic researches toward awareness raising activities on the vitality of access to sea outlets by university lecturers.

Ethiopia pays two billion US dollars annually to Djibouti alone simply because it is a landlocked nation and has no port. This is just one aspect of showing the cumbersome economic burden Ethiopia has to carry as it is devoid of access to sea outlets, it was disclosed.

As for the MoU with Somaliland, the scholars have asserted that the agreement is based on international maritime legal framework.
